PAUL MCLENNAN studied law at the University of Victoria in British Columbia graduating with his Juris Doctorate (JD) in 2003 and earning his Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Toronto in 2006. Paul is accredited as a mediator and arbitrator by the Law Society of British Columbia.
After summering, articling and being employed as an associate in the corporate commercial and commercial real estate practice areas with Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP in Toronto, Paul co-founded Contreras McLennan – Barristers & Solicitors in January 2006 in Toronto’s financial district. In 2011, he relocated from Toronto to Victoria, British Columbia initially opening McLennan Law Office and subsequently, Contreras McLennan Law Corporation.
While attending the University of Victoria Faculty of Law, Paul won a number of prestigious awards and prizes including:
- The David Roberts Prize in Legal Writing – Awarded annually by The Advocate (the journal of the legal profession of British Columbia) for a paper which best exemplifies the presentation of a legal subject in a literate and persuasive manner;
- The Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP Award for Excellence in Intellectual Property Research – Awarded annually to a student(s) who has produced an excellent research paper in the area of Intellectual Property Law or directly related areas; and
- The Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP Award for Excellence in Real Property Transactions – Awarded annually to a student that has demonstrated excellence in the Real Property Transactions course.
In addition, Paul was the recipient of a Bell University Laboratories Scholarship while completing his Master of Laws degree at the University of Toronto.
Paul has successfully represented clients at the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Court of Appeal of British Columbia, the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal of Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada as well as before various boards and tribunals. He has gained broad hands on experience in resolving disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and collaborative law. Paul is a fully trained mediator, arbitrator and collaborative law family lawyer.
Paul is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia.
Before becoming a lawyer, Paul worked as an artist running various painting studios in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg and London, England – among various other locations.
Paul is a basketball coach, cyclist, world traveler and all around curious person.
